Mysterious Producers
006: Soul of the 60s

Mysterious Producer 006 have hand-picked a selection of their patented retro 45s for a swinging set filled with 50s and 60s grooves.

The famed duo behind the curtain this week are no strangers to the checkered dance floors and dimly-lit dance clubs of the world, but a global period of isolation from the gathering spaces they love inspired this mix of the most upbeat, lively sounds from the past.

This mix was designed to conjure up the spirit of nightlife that was missing for so long: hanging out in a dimly lit club, a flash of neon, a kissing couple in the shadows, silhouetted dancers twisting their hips on a checkered dance floor as the vintage vinyl spins on the decks, everyone joined together by the rhythms that envelop them, the beats of their heart and the music pulsating as one under the cover of darkness….

The vinyl 45s we play on this mix come from another era—but the sound is timeless. The blues of the 50s and the soul of the 60s were designed for the dance floor. They were the original dance music, and their infectious beats and grooves still make people move like they did back when they were first played. The sound is often unpolished and raw, but its intensity wins you over every time. We also threw in a tribute to the late great Lee “Scratch” Perry in a modern remix of an old track that connects the past to the present.
